What went right
Freshman Christian Volesky scored his team-high sixth goal of the season and his third goal in the last two games against Sacremento State Friday. Sunday, the Pioneers were able to hold the San Jose Spartans scoreless for 68 minutes of play.
What went wrong
Sacremento State recorded 15 shots compared to Denver’s 11 on Friday. The Pioneers were unable to find the back of the net on Sunday. The Pioneers also allowed three goals in a 12 minute span.

The Pioneers finish MPSF regular season play as they host Cal State Bakersfield on Friday at 7 p.m. and Seattle on Sunday at 1 p.m. at CIBER Field.
Women’s soccer

What went right
Thursday, juniors Kristen Hamilton and Katy Van Lieshout, sophomore Nicholette DiGiacomo and freshmen Anna Willis and Jacey Birtcher all scored for the Pioneers in their final home game of the regular season. Sunday, Hamilton tallied two more goals, bringing her weekend total to four.
What went wrong
The Pioneers continued their successful season with little error, totaling nine wins in the Sun Belt Conference. The Pioneers need either a victory or a tie in order to clinch their second consecutive SBC conference championship.

Denver finishes the regular season Friday as the Pioneers take on North Texas on the road at 6 p.m.
Men’s tennis
What went right
Junior Enej Bonin was able to progress to the semifinals at the 2011 USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Regional Championships on Saturday. In total, four Pioneers advanced to the singles round of 16, including Bonin, Fabio Biasioin, Yannick Weihs and Alex Clinkenbeard, after each winning two matches. In doubles, Weihs and freshman Othar Kordsachia advanced to the consolation semifinals after an 8-3 win over Utah State’s Markus Fritz and Fredrik Peterson.
What went wrong
Bonin was unable to attain back-to-back singles titles after falling 6-4, 7-5 to Boise State’s Damian Hume in the semifinals at Darling Tennis Center. In the consolation semifinals, Weihs and Kordsachia fell 9-8 to Arizona’s Carlos Bermudez and Mario Urquidi.

The Pioneers will take the court again as split squads participating in both the ITA National Indoor Championship in Flushing, NY Nov. 3 through Nov. 6 and in the Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis Nov. 4-6.
