Like to get dirty? Does hitting the trail in a 4×4 sound like an awesome way to spend the weekend? The DU Off Road Club, or DUOR, might be the perfect place for you. It is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, make new friends and even do some volunteer work.

The club offers education and instruction in off-roading as well as providing a safe and exciting atmosphere for students to explore this outdoor sport.

Anyone can join, from those who have been off-roading their entire lives to those who have never seen a trailhead. The group also welcomes those without vehicles. The trips “range from mild to wild” so a student can test the waters before jumping into such an expensive sport.

The has a firm commitment to help improve the environment by participating in two to three trail cleanups per year. Members also plan on volunteering for Trail Patrol, which monitors and enforces responsible 4×4 use of the Colorado outdoors.

DUOR is doing some new things this year with the increased funding it has received from the AUSA Senate. For example the club plans to do a large trail cleanup next spring and be more involved in the Colorado 4×4 community. The club is also trying to generate more excitement about winter off-roading by encouraging attendance at the Georgetown Annual Ice Races, where contestants compete in events Georgetown’s lake. Many DUOR members participate each year.
