Rock with a reason, that’s the best way to describe the diverse group dc talk. On Wednesday, Feb. 13 they played to a pumped-up crowd. The Fillmore auditorium was packed with all ages, from children to parents and everyone in between.

It wasn’t just a concert, it was a full out entertainment spectacle that included each band member playing a brief set from their solo projects.

The trio composed of Toby McKeehan, Michael Tait and Kevin Max, formed the band in 1987 in college. The thing that sets them apart from most bands is their deep spiritual commitment to God. This commitment shows in their songs and lyrics.

They have successfully fused rock, rap and pop into a unique sound that simply works. Over the thirteen years they have grown in popularity and have received many awards and accolades.

Their new album, Solo, was just released. The tour is named after the album. Solo has a deeper meaning because all three members of the band have recently been branching out on their own projects.

At the concert, after dc talk played for about forty-five minutes, McKeehan, Tait and Max all played with their own bands.

Tait’s new self-titled album is rock and McKeehan’s style is more rap and hip-hop. Max ‘s solo set is a softer rock style.

Then dc talk came together again to finish the show. They played such hits as “what if I stumble,” “in the light,” and they ended the show with their biggest hit, “Jesus freak.”

A drummer, bassist, two guitarists, keyboardist and a DJ backed up the three singers. All in all, it made for a busy stage with everyone jumping around. Occasionally they would stage dive into the crowd.

McKeehan ended the show by jumping off a stack of ten-foot amps into the audience.

Everyone didn’t just walk away with ringing ears though, throughout the show they told stories, and backed up their songs with scripture from the Bible.

The show was more than just singing and blaring instruments. It was an all-out rock extravaganza.

They put on an amazing performance, leaving a lasting impression.
