The end of winter quarter allows students to breathe a sigh of relief because finals are over and only one quarter to go before school is out for summer. It also symbolizes time to break out the swimsuits and head to warmer climates.

Spring break for DU this year is the week of March 18-22. Before you head off on that much awaited foreign vacation, you should look into where to go, with what people and where to avoid. Here is a quick review of the hot places around the country that are drawing in large crowds of students because of their great atmospheres.

Warm climates in foreign countries are popular for spring breakers, so students head to Mexico. As is apparent, most of the world’s hottest locations for semester break are in Mexico. Perhaps this is because of Mexico’s free-spirited and rebellious atmosphere or more obviously due to its beautiful beaches that everybody can get to without spending a fortune or without having to fly across an ocean.

Cancun has some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, white sand and crystal clear blue waters. Yet its natural beauties pale in comparison to what this resort city has to offer in the way of nightlife and college partying.

Acapulco’s nightlife and party scenes have been famous for many years. And while Acapulco is definitely a lot of fun, it’s a bit more reserved and calmer than Cancun.South Padre Island is one of the fastest growing party spots near Mexico-now that Cancun is finally getting a bit “played out.” Located in Texas, it offers a bit more of a family scene and is somewhat similar to Myrtle Beach, FLA. Other popular destinations include Caribbean islnds and cruises.

The destination depends upon the person and so does the cost. To stay in one of these premier locations, the cost ranges from just under $1,000, to several thousand.

It depends on how much fun a person wants to have, what type of fun and who they are going to be doing it with. Airfare ranges from $900 to $1200, and one night in a hotel ranges from $75-$250.

For those students willing to spend a lot and have a lot of fun, these spots are out there and open. Other students will also be enjoying spring break, so it is a great opportunity to get to meet students from around the nation, while enjoying the break before the last quarter of classes get underway.
