It’s about that time of year again. College kids all over the country are packing their bathing suits or ski boots and getting ready for spring break.

No matter what you are planning on doing this spring break, you are most likely planning on having fun.

Sometimes, though, that perfect spring break trip can turn into a nightmare. In hopes to help prevent any spring break fiascos, here are some places and situations you may want to avoid.

The number one place people don’t want to go for spring break seems to be home. The point of spring break is to get as far away from your parents as physically possible.

This may seem obvious but home may seem appealing after 10 weeks of dorm food. After all it is cheap. “Don’t be fooled though, said Sean Fenton, a freshman, explainng why home is a bad spring break destination. “There are no hot girls in bathing suits at my house,” he said.

The mountains may seem like a bleak place to spend your spring break if your not a skier or boarder.

“Mountains are a bad place to go because they are not spring like,” said G Phan. “The whole concept of spring break is to celebrate the coming of spring and leave winter behind you. That’s why people go to beaches and exotic places, because they want to get away from the snow.”

So if you’re not a snow lover, the mountains may not be ideal for you.

Even what may seem like the ideal spring break destination can turn bad. Freshman Evan Miller went to Cancun last spring break and didn’t have a lot of fun.

“The party’s sucked because they were too strict, but the worst part was one of the activities was filmed and my parents saw it on TV, so lets just say I didn’t have a good time when I got home,” Miller said.

So watch out for those cameras when you’re out partying this spring break. Otherwise you may have some explaining to do.

Another destination that is bad is a back up one.

“I broke my arm in the fourth grade and had to go visit my aunt and uncle in Albuquerque instead of getting to go skiing.” said Katherine Bell. Having to cancel original spring break plans for something else is never a fun thing to have to do.

A student who would prefer to remain anonymous will never forget a spring break at lake Tahoe. “I was in the hot tub drinking with a bunch of guys. I ended up making out with one of them, when my parents caught me. As a result I couldn’t snowboard the first day I was there.”

This is always a bad combination, spring break with parents. If you do decide to mix the two make sure you are careful to watch what you do, and what you drink.

There it is, all the spring breaks gone badly. Hopefully you can learn from these mistakes and make this spring break the best one ever. What is fun for one person may not do for another. The best thing to do is just try to relax, because it goes by so fast.
