A female DU student was attacked Sunday morning outside of the Kappa Sigma fraternity house by a man who yanked her into a car and attempted to sexually assault her.
Campus Safety sent out a campus-wide e-mail about the incident, which gave the following account.
At 9.45 a.m. Sunday, the victim noticed a van slowing down behind her. A few minutes later the van returned, she turned around, and the suspect asked if she needed a ride. She said no and started to walk away. She was grabbed from behind by the shirt and was pulled into the van.
While in the van, the victim was told to remove her clothes. The victim attempted to escape, was then punched in the side of her head and was released.
A description of the suspect and his car were given in the e-mail. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 30s, with no facial hair. He wore a black hat and shirt and blue athletic pants. The van has Colorado plates and is described as being a late ’80s, baby blue work van, with no back doors or windows.
Detective John White of the Denver Police department said the police are currently, “doing everything we can” and “would like to move forward with the investigation,” but can’t until they are able to contact the female victim. The victim, said White, can “add details” and provide “a direction to go in” for the police.
Jim Berscheidt, assistant vice chancellor of communications and marketing, advised students to continue being aware of their surroundings and “keep distance from someone approaching them.”
