Fourteen contestants competed in the talent show last week, which kicked off Winter Carnival in Sturm Auditorium.

The talents that the students showed ranged from playing the piano to belly dancing.

First place went to Mica Dominguez-Robinson, Curtis Schroeder and Whitney Testa. The trio performed a piece from the hit Broadway musical “Wicked” called “For Good.” Schroeder played the guitar while Robinson and Testa sang. Testa and Robinson sang the parts of Elphaba and Glinda from the musical. Schroeder said that he was “ecstatic to have won, especially against such great competition.”

The second place winner was Arpeeneh Adamian. Adamian, a freshman, impressed the crowd with her dancing and was just one point shy of winning first place.

The third place winner was Eric Percak, sophomore music major, who sang his own original piece titled “Do You Believe in Happiness” while playing on the guitar and harmonica.

Students came out to cheer their friends and enjoy the show while the multi-talented performers strutted their stuff and competed for prizes.

There was even a stand up comedian. According to the announcer, he probably would have faired better in the rankings if he had kept in mind the fact that “some of the judges were women.”

Senior Meghan Knight had been in the talent show all four years. For her last performance she sang “Broken Wing” by Martina McBride.

The most unique performance of the night was the belly dancing by junior Jennifer Heeth. Heeth has been belly dancing for four years. She said belly dancing “has been a positive force in my life and I would like to share it with everyone.”

Josh Man, a junior and transfer student from Ithaca, sang an original song he titled “Sincerely Yours” while playing on the guitar.

DUPB personnel could be seen between performers scurrying around the stage setting up microphones and moving pianos.

Joey Ham, a member of the DUPB, which sponsored the talent show, said that he was happy with the event and “happy to see DU’s best and brightest come out.”

After the individual performances the DU dance team performed a dance routine while the judges deliberated on the acts and made their choices.

After about 10 minutes all of the contestants were called back on stage while the judges announced the winners.
