The University of Denver men’s and women’s swimming teams defeated the Colorado School of Mines in a dual meet at El Pomar Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.

The women finished first in eight of the 13 events, with a final score of 141-71.

The men finished 145-92, winning seven of the 13 events.

Freshman Kitt Watkins was named the Sun Belt Conference Diver of the Week after an impressive diving performance on Saturday.

Watkins helped lead the Pioneers to the top with two victories in the one-and-three meter diving events.

Two other Pioneer women helped DU lead the way by adding 18 points each to the win.

Senior Katie Holtmeirer won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:16.86 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:27.71.

Senior Erin Moir won two events as well. She took first in the 200-yard freestyle 2:02.09 and the 200-yard breaststroke 2:35.45.

Senior Erin Lundy also helped out the team by winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.92. Lundy also took third in the 200-yard butterfly.

Two sophomores also gave impressive performance for the Pioneer men.

John Conyers and John Klostoe both won two events.

Conyers won the one and three-meter diving events with scores of 199.50 and 160.54.

Klostoe finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:07.24 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.11.

Junior Asaf Schachaf also helped take the Pioneers to a victory by winning the 50-yard freestyle at 21.25 and finishing second in the 100-yard freestyle at 47.06.

To top it all off, sophomore Greg Dontchos added one more win by taking first Place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.97.

The Denver women will be back in the pool when they host the Sun Belt Conference championships beginning the weekend of Feb. 14.

The men will be swimming again on Feb. 18 as they enter the Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference championships.
