Kat Walsh
Hometown: Seattle, WA
Year: Third-year
Running for: Vice President
Major(s): Marketing
Why did you decide to run for this position? “We love DU, and feel that this is the next step to give back to DU.”
“AUSA Senate needs new perspectives and fresh, creative voices. Senate needs leaders who KNOW WHAT’S UP. We firmly believe in the DU experience and will work hard to improve it for current and future students.
Get the Hook-Up: Provide students with jobs and internships through DU alumni
As president and vice president we will better prepare undergraduates for post-graduate life by establishing a network to connect students with alumni who KNOW WHAT’S UP. This network will benefit alums and undergrads alike by offering students better access to internship and job opportunities and presenting alumni with new ways to give back to DU.
Get Connected: Enhance the Driscoll Center by providing centralized student mailboxes. The Driscoll Center does not fulfill its purpose as our student center. By providing mail services within the building, students will have the same address throughout their entire undergraduate career and Driscoll will become a real student union-a place where every student will go to KNOW WHAT’S UP on campus.
Get Your Money’s Worth: Improve communication so you KNOW WHAT’S UP and can take advantage of what you pay for. We will increase the accessibility of Senate by specifically focusing on Senate’s interaction with student organizations. Under our leadership, we will ensure that senators fulfill their responsibilities as liaisons to student organizations. Additionally, senators will become more knowledgeable about the groups they represent and more able to act on behalf of the interests of those groups.
The above are real, practical solutions to issues confronting the DU campus. It’s time for a more effective AUSA Senate that will better respond to students’ needs. Together we can create a better DU.”

Year: Third-year
Running for: President
Major(s): Public Policy, Political Science
Why did you decide to run for this position? “We are the only people who are both on Senate now, which gives us institutional knowledge that is critical. We have heard throughout the year student concerns, and now we want to implement change. We focused on communication this year, and next year we will focus on community.”
Ryan Myers
Hometown: Coventry, RI
Year: Third-year
Running for: Vice President
Major(s): Finance, Real Estate
Why did you decide to run for this position? “It is important to have a sense of community, and although we have one now, we want to make it better. We would like to see more opportunities for student organizations and we would like to start a judicial branch of Senate in order to monitor money.”
“Next year’s senate is going to be all about community. This year AUSA did a great job of opening up communication between AUSA, student organizations and the Administration through the use of the chancellor’s roundtables, president’s roundtables, and the senate liaison program.
And next year we hope to really develop a sense of community at DU. We will accomplish this by remodeling the Driscoll Student Center to allow for more student space, by allocating more funds to student organizations, and by working with athletics to coordinate the pilot program for the free student ticket program.
We will also work to lower costs for AV and space rental for student organizations, and work with campus safety to ensure that DU is a campus we can all feel comfortable on.
We are the only candidates running for President and VP who have both had previous senate experience. This will be vital to accomplishing our goals as individual candidates, and as the 2006-2007 AUSA Senate. Developing close relationships with the administration and staff in the Campus Life office is essential, and we will work to make sure this relationship stays productive and beneficial for both parties.
And finally, AUSA is about the students. We will work to provide an open and non-intimidating space for students to come and voice questions and concerns to their student government. We really do care about your feedback, and we will work with individuals to accomplish common goals to benefit the university.
We wish everyone the best of luck this year, and are looking forward to serving as your next AUSA President and VP.”
