Sam Donaldson from ABC News is coming to the University of Denver as part of the School of Communication’s annual three-day conference on issues.
This year’s theme of SOC Summit 2005 is “Communication: Reputation and Responsibility” and will focus on challenges in the field of communication to act responsibly and will be held Feb. 23 – 25 at the Cable Center. The sessions at the Summit are free to students.
Donaldson will be the Hathorne keynote speaker and the academic keynote address will be given by John A. Daly, a professor of communication at the University of Texas at Austin.
Donaldson has been a reporter and anchor for ABC News for almost four decades and has covered everything from the Vietnam War and Watergate to the war in Iraq.
The Summit will consist of a variety of workshops where professionals from both the media and business worlds and academics will discuss topics pertinent to communication and responsibility. To register or for more information visit soc.du.edu/summit.
Feb. 23

*7-9 p.m. Dinner and keynote speaker
Feb. 24
*9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Three sessions will be held on communication. U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard will be a panelist at panel on media ownership.
*11 a.m. to 12: 15 p.m. Three sessions will be held. One is on “Reporting Scandal on Campus” with B.G. Brooks, the college sports reporter for the Rocky Mountain News; the second panel on responsibility in public service and the third panel is on responsibility in cultural sensitivity.
*12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Daly will speak during lunch. Lunch is $10 for students, for all others it is $25.
*1:45 to 3 p.m. The final sessions of the day will be on topics of responsible meassages in communications; on how the White House spins the message with C-SPAN editor and DU adjunct professor Steve Scully; confronting everyday prejudice; and responsible filmmaking.

Cost is $75 for breakfast and lunch. Participants must register by Friday.
*8:30 to 9:30 a.m. A session on non-profit and profit businesses.
*9:45 to 10:45 a.m. A session on reputation management with Commentator Fred Brown and 9 News reporter Adam Schrager.
*11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The final session will be on maintaining great brands.
*12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Ellen Brown, senior program administrator of First Data Western Union Foundation, will speak at the luncheon.
