Renewable energy panel

A panel discussion, titled “Unpacking the the Politics of Renewable Energy: From Colorado to Europe,” is being held tonight from 7-9 p.m. in the CyberCafe in Ben Cherrington Hall. The discussion will center around the political evolution of renewable energy policies.

Panelists include members of the Governor’s Energy Office, Environment Colorado, Ecologic – Institute for International and European Environmental Policy and faculty from both the University of Colorado-Denver and the Graduate School of International Studies.

A wine and cheese reception will take place from 7-7:30 p.m., followed by the discussion and a question and answer session. The event is free.

Chancellor’s

roundtable

The Chancellor’s Roundtable is being held on Wednesday. This is an opportunity for students to raise concerns about DU directly to the chancellor. Students are also invited to ask questions and make suggestions to the Chancellor.

The event is being held from 1-3 p.m. in Driscoll Center Gallery.

Wal-Mart, Pepsi and sustainability

Net Impact, a student group at the Daniels College of Business, is hosting “The Power of Corporate Sustainability: A Wal-Mart and PepsiCo. Perspective” this Wednesday.

Janelle Kearsley, director of corporate strategy and sustainability for Wal-Mart, and Tim Carey, director of sustainability and technology from PepsiCo-Chicago, will each speak about their company’s efforts to become sustainable businesses.

Celebrating black

entertainment

“A Tribute to Black Entertainment” is being held on Wednesday. The evening provides a showcase of black entertainment from the 1900s to the present. It is meant to recognize African-American actors, sports figures, poets and musicians. Live performances will be featured.

All are welcome to attend the event from 6-8:30 p.m.

Blood drive

Greek Life is hosting a blood drive on Wednesday and Thursday.

The drive is taking place in Driscoll

rooms 1864 and 1880, behind Driscoll Ballroom, from 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on both days.

Promoting peace in the Middle East

The Institute for the Study of Israel in the Middle East (ISIME) will be hosting two lectures by Raed Mualem, an Arab-Israeli and ISIME Partner for Peace, next week. Mualem is a pioneer in the development of the ISIME International Conference for University Leaders throughout the Middle East.

An evening lecture, titled “Why There is Hope For Peace,” will take place at 7 p.m. in Sturm Hall Auditorium. It is open to the community.

Globalization and

migration

Saskia Sassen, a sociology professor from Columbia University, will be speaking at a public lecture next Wednesday, March 5. The lecture, “Immigration in a Global World,” will focus on ways in which globalization has altered migration.

Sassen is also a member of the Committee on Global Thought, has worked on a project for UNESCO and is an author. She is giving this lecture as part of the Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Program.

The lecture is from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Lindsay Auditorium in Sturm Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Celebrating public good

A Public Good Celebration is being held on Thursday, April 3. The public work of DU faculty and students will be celebrated and honored. The evening will include the presentation of the annual public good awards to one student and one faculty member, presentations, food and a jazz ensemble.

The celebration is from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Community Room in Craig Hall Graduate School of Social Work.

The following afternoon, a public good lunch and lecture is being held. “Making Use of All Our Faculties: The Intellectual Generativity of Public Work” will feature speaker Dr. Scobey. The event is form 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the Community Room in Craig Hall.
