A bright yellow school bus is not something you would expect to see on a college campus. The C-SPAN (Cable Satellite Public Affairs Network) school bus will make a pit stop at the Cable Center this Thursday to give tours and answer questions 12-1 p.m. and 3-4 p.m.
The Cable Center, located next to the Ritchie Center, has been the home of a groundbreaking distance-learning program sponsored by DU and C-SPAN in an effort to give students opportunities they could not otherwise have in Denver. Dr. John Splaine is the Amos Hostetter Communication Chair who teaches students through a cable connection from his studio in the C-SPAN office in Washington, DC.
While in Denver, the bus will also stop at Thomas Jefferson High School, recipient of AT&T’s Emerging Technology last year.
On Thursday Dr. Splaine will meet his students face to face for the first time, and teach Friday at 1-3 p.m.
Dr. Splaine will teach several sessions at West High School on how political events are staged, and also how political commercials are designed to influence voters.
The C-SPAN school bus travels across the country visiting different cities and schools. Most recently the bus was used in the Northwest for Lewis and Clark expedition footage.
