THE PIONEER MEN’S soccer team hopes to snap a five-game losing streak, and win their final four regular season games, two of which are home games Nov. 8 and 9 against New Mexico.
The soccer team lost several of its players from last season and is starting several freshmen. This lack of experience may have cost the Pioneers some games, but they are still looking for the final spot in the Sun Belt championship tournament.
One of the final games at Pioneer Field will be played at noon Sunday against San Diego State, and the other will be against the Air Force Academy Falcons Nov. 10 at noon at Pioneer Field.
Although the Pioneers have been on a losing streak, they still plan to turn it all around. Decisive victories in their final four games, two of which are at home, could make a difference.
Head Coach Chad Ashton, who is in his sixth year at the helm said, “The more people cheering and the more support, the easier it is to get excited [for games]. . . Our ultimate goal is to get into the conference tournament. Once we get in, it is kind of like starting over, and anything can happen. Every team except one in the conference makes it to the tournament and the Pioneers do not want to be [the excluded] team. Being 0-2 in conference play puts us behind the eight-ball, so we will try to win as many as we can,” Ashton said, “to win the remaining games we have to score more goals while continuing to play good defense.”
