In its fourth straight road game Denver women’s lacrosse defeated George Washington 13-9 on Sunday as junior Megan Carver again led the team with four goals and two assists.

Just 43 seconds into the game, George Washington scored, but the Pioneers rebounded quickly with two goals from sophomore Lexi Sanders.

Sanders had a hat trick in the game as well as an assist.

Sophomore Ali Flury also added three goals to the DU scoreboard.

“We had a very strong first half,” Head Coach Liza Kelly said. “Megan Zeman had a great game defensively with four caused turnovers, and Carver had a good game. Overall I thought it was a great effort across the field.”

George Washington came back to tie the game and DU retaliated with five goals in a row, including two by Carver to seal the lead.

Both teams scored six goals in the second half. Down 11-7 with six minutes left in the game, George Washington scored twice, narrowing Denver’s lead to two.

After the attempted comeback from GW, Denver closed the game with goals from both Flury and junior Steph Coyne in the last 18 seconds.

The final two home games of the season for the Pioneers are this weekend when they host UC Davis on Friday at 2 p.m. and No. 17 Stanford on Sunday at 1 p.m. Denver will honor its seniors in their last home game. Both games will be webcast live on Pioneer Vision at wwww.denverpioneers.com.
