Dear Editor,
I am writing about some articles that appeared in your newspaper in February of 2003. After the death of Kait Buckley, your newspaper printed two different articles talking about her death, as well as her memorial service. Did anyone think about her friends or family before they published these articles? I know that you have freedom of the press, but I truly found the title “Grad Student Suicide” to be thoughtless and cruel. Kait was the most wonderful person I have ever known. I was sick when I read these articles. Your sensational journalism disgusts me. I know you want dramatic newspaper headlines, but are they worth it at someone elses expense? Not to mention that she has a family and close friends that had to be subjected to these articles. Kait was a great person, who lead a great life. It may not have ended well; we will never truly know. I just think it would have been nice to focus on how well she lived her life instead of dwelling on how she may have died.
