Campus Safety is increasing patrols in all parking lots and on streets surrounding the campus due to the increase in vandalisms, car thefts, and car breakins.

The Denver metro area is also experiencing a significant increase of car thefts. Officials say this may be due to the low economy. Campus Safety said the campus has experienced numerous incidents of vandalisms and thefts from and of automobiles. Campus Safety urges students to remove valuables from their cars prior to locking.

Students should never leave their car unlocked and unattended. Crimes of this nature are frequently crimes of opportunity. Campus Safety asks that students report suspicious persons they see in and around parking lots on campus by calling extension 1-3000.

Campus Safety has also updated information on sex offenders. The Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act is a new federal mandate requiring universities to provide campus community members with clear guidance on obtaining information about convicted sex offenders who enroll or are employed at the university.

This information may be obtained from the law enforcement agency that has jurisdiction where the institution is located.

DU is located within the jurisdiction of the Denver Police Department. Accordingly, this information may be obtained at Denver Police headquarters, located at 1331 Cherokee St., between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Mon-Fri.

Also, the Campus Safety wishes to remind students and staff of the availability of the DU SafeRide shuttle service.

This free service operates between 6:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. during the academic year, except during the summer quarter. Anyone with a DU Pioneer Card is eligible to use the shuttle.
