According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a woman is sexually assaulted every two minutes in the United States.

R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense Systems) is once again holding a self-defense workshop for female members of the DU community.

The course is open not only to students, but also to faculty and staff.

Many women cannot defend themselves against an attack, and R.A.D. aims to change that. The program will take place over two days, and teach women how to fend off an attacker.

R.A.D.’s objective is “to develop and enhance the options of self defense, so they may become viable considerations to the woman who is attacked.”

The first part of the program will take place on Friday, Jan. 31, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The second will be on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Both classes will take place in the Centennial Towers lounge.

The classes cost $35, and R.A.D. promises “a free lifetime return policy.”

Class size is limited, so women are urged to sign up soon. To sign up for the program, e-mail rad_training@du.edu or call Corporal Raymond Juan with the Department of Campus Safety at (303) 871-3215.

The program is sponsored by the University of Denver Department of Campus Safety.
