Want to stay “Up ‘Til Dawn”? You’re in luck. St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital will be holding an all-night party on campus May 2.
St. Jude’s is located in Memphis, Tenn. and is the largest children’s research hospital in the United States. It was founded by the late Danny Thomas, star of “Make Room for Daddy” and “The Danny Thomas Hour,” in 1962. Since its founding, St. Jude’s has treated over 17,000 children with cancer.
“Up ‘Til Dawn” is a combined effort by DU and St. Jude’s to raise money for the hospital. It was started a year ago, and was able to raise $11,000. Students donate money to St. Jude’s, and are treated to a party with live entertainment, dancing, food and other activities.
The money is raised through a $750 entrance fee to the party. The fee does not have to be paid by one person. It can be split among a group of six people. To register for the party, the groups have to fill out registration forms and give a $50 deposit. The rest of the money comes from donations, rather than out of the students’ pockets.
Donations are raised through a letter-writing campaign before the party. Students can write letters to friends, parents or other relatives, asking for money for a good cause.
There will be a letter writing campaign today and tomorrow in Sturm Hall 253 from 6 to 8 p.m., and there will be food and refreshments available.
This year’s “Up ‘Til Dawn” party has been scheduled for May 2, and will be held in the Hamilton Gym.
According to Crystal Sequeira, “Up ‘Til Dawn” public relations director, “We’re hoping to raise a lot of money and unite campus in the process.”
