It’s recently come to my attention that there is a group on campus that could use a bit of help getting their name out there.

The Book Stack is a used bookstore in the Mary Reed Building that I found last Wednesday. I’d seen the signs propped up outside that building advertising used books but I assumed, this being a university, the books were text books. I didn’t feel a powerful need to browse through old texts with pages falling out and the covers ripping off that were likely published in 1970, so I passed it by. I’m willing to wager a fair few DU students have made the same assumption about the place and not given it a second glance.

I can’t tell you what possessed me to go into the store this week, but I discovered what can only be described as a treasure trove of books.

Now, I realize that there are a number of folks who decided back around the fifth grade that reading was the closest thing to torture that the government would allow us to be subjected to. But I know there are people like me who have realized that entertainment can be more than pretty flashing lights and loud music and thus don’t have to run at the sight of a novel.

All the books are cheap (none of the titles I saw was marked at more than $1, and right now they are overstocked and selling everything for 50 cents) and the proceeds go to Penrose Library. You can’t really argue that the library needs help, unless you happen to enjoy dusty, dated books, crowded shelving and bright orange walls that make the eyes hurt.

The store also accepts donations of your old books. All donations are tax deductible.
