In their second studio album, Colorblind, Robert Randolph & The Family Band distinguish themselves as a voice of today’s society.

This rock fusion band, consisting of four main members, develops rich themes in its most recent and most widely anticipated release.

With guest appearances by rock superstars Eric Clapton and Dave Matthews, Robert Randolph & The Family Band offers an innovative display of a variety of different instruments, giving them a unique sound to showcase their powerful lyrics.

Songs such as “Deliver Me,” “Stronger” and “Love is the Only Way” give a hard commentary on the turbulent times that we live in today.

These songs offer messages of hope for a struggling society, with Lennon-esque ideas of love and peace being the only answer to our troubles.

The addition of Dave Matthews to “Love is the Only Way” adds to its upbeat melodic tones and helps to generate the positive vibe that seems to be the intention of the band.

With the chorus of this song reverberating the song’s theme of love as our society’s answer, the band fully demonstrates the impact that a song’s lyrics can have when mixed with an appealing beat.

Though the band’s theme in the album seems to be one of peace and love, this is certainly not a folk album and songs to sing around a fire.

The album has an excellent mix of up-tempo songs and slower melodies.

The band showcases its musical talents through eccentric guitar and keyboard solos, even featuring a bluesy electric guitar solo by Clapton on the album’s fifth track, “Jesus is Alright.”

The fusion of genres that the band displays gives something that can entice music lovers of all backgrounds to this album.

The final track, “Homecoming,” alone showcases three different genres, through its hip-hop drum beats at the intro, 50s style rock guitar solo and power chords of modern-day alternative.

Robert Randolph & The Family Band delivers a strong message in the 11-track album, a message from a band that can entice people of all backgrounds and ethnicities to accept.

The fact that the band has such a range in its sound, allows all cultures to fully enjoy and appreciate what the band is trying to say in its music.

This new album, produced by Warner Bros. Records, is a must-buy for music lovers of all genres.

The album is the second of hopefully many to come from this immensely talented group. Each song receives two thumbs up.
