Last Tuesday, the AUSA Senate approved the DU ISMS Art Club’s use of Senate funding for alcoholic purchases for the club’s gallery opening last Friday.
Though the funding is not usually used for alcoholic purchases, the Senate deliberated to make an exception for the club.
The gallery event has been funded by the Department of Art and Art History for the past five years, but a lack of money made funding impossible this year.
Senate Finance Committee Chair Amber Kirchenschlager gave her blessings to the art club, saying, “the art club has done amazing things this past year. I think we can definitely trust them not to abuse it.”
Senate Advisor Carl Johnson also supported the wine purchase, and the art club in turn assured him that a licensed bartender would be monitoring the drinking to prevent underage consumption.
The newly appointed 2004-2005 Senators were given a warm welcome by the current senators.
Both groups of senators applauded to celebrate the new school voting record of 1542 in last week’s elections.
Driscoll Bridge will receive flat screen televisions by the end of the year if enough money is raised.
Also, new banners will fly in the Magness Arena student section next year, separating the crowd by class. These banners will enter the arena as soon as they pass Magness regulations.
