The women’s golf team finished 14th at the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Knoxville, Tenn., on Sunday.
Sophomore Ellie Givens finished tied for 28th place, while senior Dawn Shockley ended in a tie for 47th place and freshman Sarah Faller ended in a four-way tie for 54th place.
The weekend was divided among three days, the first of which left Shockley in 23rd place with a score of 1-over par 73.
The team’s top player, junior Stephanie Sherlock, was not in attendance.
Sherlock represented her native country, Canada, at the Women’s Amateur Team Championships in Adelaide, Australia, last Saturday.
Sherlock ended with an even par score of 72 at The Grange Golf Club West Course.
Canada finished in fourth place, after Sweden, Spain and the United States, which took the top three positions, respectively.
Back at home, Saturday also proved well for DU.
The team moved to 14th place, up two spots from Friday, and Faller moved up to 38th place after her career-low of 2-under par 70. Shockley also moved up to 34th place and held the lead among the team’s individuals.
Givens pushed her way through to 41st place with an overall 36-hole score of 150, 6-over par.
Also on Saturday, seniors Katie Kempter and Sarah Djos both tied for an overall score of 155 in 67th place, with 95 players in attendance at the tournament.
On the final round and day, Givens again fought her way up, this time to 28th place, finishing with an overall 54-hole score of 223.
Tournament champion Lauren Doughtie, of North Carolina State, finished 14 strokes ahead of Givens to win it with an overall score of 209 (7-under par).
Kempter finished in a four-way tie for 65th place and Djos in 85th.
The women’s team will travel to Reunion, Fla., for the National Golf Coaches Association Match Play Championships on Sunday, Nov. 2.
