This year Rock Aid Denver, a Colorado non-profit corporation, will adopt the 52nd annual Beachcombers Ball which was originally hosted by Kappa Sigma fraternity. The event is Saturday.

This is being done in order to expand the size of the event and ultimately raise more money for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of Children’s International Summer Villages.

This year the event is sponsored by GoFast Sports, Stoli Vodka, KVDU and many more organizations, playing an integral role in making this charity event possible.

The ball will be held at Caldonia’s Bar-B-Que, which is located at 2252 S. Parker Road, on the corner of Iliff Avenue and Parker Road in Aurora.

Rock Aid Denver was formed by several members of the local music community to sponsor and plan charitable events.

Its first event was the School Aid Benefit concert held at the Paramount Theater. The event raised over $5,000 to benefit the New York City schools affected by the Sep. 11th tragedy.

The Children’s International Summer Villages is a youth organization that promotes world peace through tolerance. The funds raised at the Beachcomber Ball will support CISV’s effort to hold an international peace education CISV Village in Denver during the summer of 2003. The event will bring together youth from 12 different countries.

Caldonia’s Bar-B-Que will be transformed into a virtual tropical island complete with over 20 tons of sand, tiki huts, two Jacuzzis, authentic Polynesian dancers, a pool with a gushing waterfall, multiple bars and a main stage performance area.

It is expected to attract over 2,000 students from the five universities throughout Colorado. The event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and run past midnight with 10 hours of top entertainment including a-line bands, various well-known local DJs and an all-day beach volleyball tournament.

Master of Ceremonies DJ Peacock will kick-off the event spinning Top 40 music and introducing the evening’s entertainment, including Chronophonic, Three Degrees of Freedom, Irie Still, DJ Ferrari and Twelve Cents for Marvin.

Admission to the Beachcombers Ball will be $15 pre-sale with a souvenir shirt, and $15 the day of the event but without a complimentary shirt.

Tickets are now on sale at various locations and times on the DU campus, Twist and Shout Records, Albums on the Hill, Boulder or by calling 303-765-2653. Buses will be running from the DU campus at the Shwayder Art Building from 3:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m.

Over the years, the Beachcombers Ball has benefited a wide range of Denver charities in the past years including the Children’s Hospital Burn Center and My Brother’s Keeper, a drug and alcohol awareness program supported by the Greek organizations.
