If you or a friend may have a problem with body image or eating habits, the University of Denver Counseling Center would like to encourage you to come in and talk it over with a counselor.
This week is Eating Disorder Awareness week, sponsored by the Counseling Center. The Counseling Center held free eating disorder screenings on Monday in Driscoll North, room 1864.
The screening involved a questionnaire and individual appointments with counselors who were on hand.
Students, faculty and staff were encouraged to make later appointments if they felt it necessary.
Jackie Moreno, a graduate student who is working on her doctorate in counseling and psychology, assisted with the free screenings. Moreno works at the Counseling Center as an intern.
“I would encourage students, faculty or staff that, if they have issues with eating or body image, to come in,” Moreno said.
The Counseling Center is located in the Ritchie Center, third floor North, joined with the Health Center.
Walk-in hours are Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Anything that is shared with the counselors is confidential.
In addition to eating disorder counseling, the Counseling Center offers grief counseling, individual and group counseling sessions, and psychiatric and drug/alcohol assessment.
The center also offers emergency services and psychiatric hospitalization when necessary.

Counseling sessions cost a $10 co-pay for students who have paid both the DU Student Health Insurance fee and the Student Health and Counseling Fee.
Students who have not paid the fees, counseling will be available on a fee-for-service basis.
Employees of the university are covered by the Employee Assistance Program, and are allowed five counseling sessions at no charge.
