On Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 3:35 p.m., Campus Safety observed a student sitting in a stairwell in Sturm Hall. The officer contacted the student and determined that they were in need of medical attention. Campus Safety contacted paramedics for assistance. Paramedics arrived on the scene, evaluated the student and transported them to Porter Hospital for further evaluation.
Theft
On Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 11:58 a.m., Campus Safety responded to a call from a student who reported that their front license plate was missing from their vehicle. The student relayed they had left the vehicle parked in lot “P” on Dec. 23 and when they returned to the vehicle on Jan. 3, they found that the license plate was gone. The student was advised to file an additional report with the Denver Police Department (DPD).
On Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 4:10 p.m., Campus Safety responded to a call from a student regarding a bicycle that had been stolen from a bike rack at Centennial Towers. Officers responded to the scene and spoke with the student who reported that they had left the bike secured with a U-Lock on Dec. 1. When they returned to retrieve the bicycle on Jan. 2 it was gone. The student also noted they could not remember if the bicycle was left at Centennial Towers or Centennial Halls.
On Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 12:31 p.m., Campus Safety responded to a call from a student who reported that an unaffiliated person was attempting to steal their bicycle from a bike rack in parking lot L. The student noted that they had stopped the theft and that they were following behind the suspect who was attempting to flee on foot. Officers responded to the scene along with DPD and contacted the suspect. The suspect was formally removed from campus and arrested by DPD.
On Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 12:10 p.m., Campus Safety responded to a call from a DU staff member who reported that they had observed a DU student attempting to steal items from the bookstore. Officers responded to the scene and spoke with the staff member and the student in question. DCS contacted DPD who arrived on the scene and cited the student for shoplifting.
On Thursday, Jan. 5, at 2:49 p.m., Campus Safety responded to a call from a staff member who reported that they had witnessed a student attempting to shoplift from the bookstore. The reporting staff member noted that DPD had already been contacted. Upon arrival, Campus Safety spoke with the staff member and student in question. DPD arrived on the scene and cited the student for shoplifting.
On Thursday, Jan. 5, at 4:49 p.m., Campus Safety responded to a call from a staff member regarding the suspected theft of their vehicle from parking lot H2. Upon arrival at the scene, Campus Safety spoke with the staff member and searched the area surrounding the vehicle’s last known location. DPD was called to the scene and took an additional report regarding the situation. A preliminary review of surveillance footage revealed the vehicle was stolen at 4:27 p.m.
Drugs and alcohol
On Friday, Jan. 6, at 2:23 a.m., Campus Safety responded to a call from Housing and Residential Education (HRE) staff regarding an intoxicated visitor in Johnson-McFarlane Hall. Officers responded to the scene and spoke with the visitor in question, who was belligerent and uncooperative. DPD was called to the scene where they issued the visitor a citation and transported them to Denver Cares.
Vandalism
On Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 1:07 p.m., a Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) was contacted by a staff member who reported that their personal vehicle had been damaged while parked in lot P. The staff member stated that they had left the vehicle in the lot at approximately 8 a.m. on Jan. 4 and when they returned to the vehicle at approximately 1 p.m. on the same day, they noticed large scratches that had not previously been there.
On Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 5:11 p.m., Campus Safety was contacted by a student who reported that their personal vehicle had been vandalized while parked in lot 108. The student relayed they had left the vehicle in the lot on Jan. 2 at approximately 8:15 p.m. and that when they returned to the vehicle on Jan. 4 at 5:11 p.m., they noticed a large scratch which appeared to have been caused intentionally.
On Friday, Jan. 6, at 9:26 p.m.
Campus Safety responded to a call from Housing and Residential Education (HRE) staff regarding the smell of marijuana emanating from a student’s room. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the student occupying the room in question and confirmed the odor of marijuana. No marijuana or paraphernalia were found.
