Oh, the lucky students of DU.

With the summer coming to a close, one thing seems to be on the minds of many males around the country – the official start to the NFL regular season.

When heading back to school, much time is spent by male college students figuring out where to find time to watch football and get school work done.

Most Sunday and Monday nights between September and February are a juggling act to find time for both schoolwork and football, but the first week is unique.

With a late start to the school year, DU students have the chance to watch a full slate of games without worrying about the consequences of not doing homework.

In addition, they had the opportunity to relax on the first Monday of the season and get the chance to watch the Philadelphia Eagles get blown out of the water by the defending Super Bowl champions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers. What a way to break in the brand new stadium in Philadelphia, after closing the Vet with loss to the Bucs last year.

The big surprise of opening weekend had to be the upset by the Houston Texans over the Miami Dolphins.

The Broncos managed to walk away from week one with a not too surprising but still appreciated victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, 30-10.

Starting the season with an easy team may have been the best way for the Broncos to open the season. This gave the recently acquired starting quarterback Jake Plummer a chance to make some mistakes and learn the offensive plays without really being tested by a stronger opponent.

It will be up to Plummer to show how far he can take the team so the Broncos won’t have to rely on the running ability of Clinton Portis.

In other games, the Buffalo Bills shut out the New England Patriots 31-0.

Who would have thought that Buffalo would jump to the top the AFC East? Maybe this season the Bills will figure out how to win a Super Bowl.

But with classes under way and homework piling up, the juggling to do well in class and continue watching football will become harder.

Then in February things will change again when most men will be figuring out how to live without football.

What to do with all those Sundays between February and September?
