A filibuster is the use of obstructionist tactics, especially prolonged speechmaking, for the purpose of delaying legislative action.

While a filibuster has been around ever since our nation’s inception, it is a terrible, low-rent way to avoid passing a bill.

Our Founding Fathers were men of progress and filibusters were more designed for debate at the time and constructed around more intellect.

Americans have always fostered the idea of forward progress.

Filibusters impede the progress of American citizens and American lawmakers.

Both sides of the Senate have filibustered over the years, usually on the grounds that the proposed bill did not benefit a majority of the citizens represented.

As of late, the Democrats are using the filibuster as a weapon in a grudge match, not because the proposals are non-beneficial, but because they are of Republican origin.

Some Democrats say that both sides have used filibusters for two and a half centuries and they are right.

That doesn’t make it an appropriate tactic nor does it mean that everything Republicans do is right.

The point is, more recently politicians have used this postponing maneuver because they are outnumbered 55-44 in the Senate.

The truth is, nobody wants to hear a politician monologue for hours on end especially when the proposals are not brought to vote.

The president has selected these nominees on the basis of their credentials and senators should uphold his choices.
