Shore returning for junior season
Sophomore forward Drew Shore announced this week that he will be returning to DU for his junior year rather thqan signing a contract with the Florda Panthers of the National Hockey League.
Shore, who was drafted in the second round No. 44 in the 2009 NHL entry draft, decided to stay after having a breakout seasonm, where he had career bests in goals, 23, and assists, 23. He led the Pioneers with 46 points.
Shore was named to the All-WCHA Second Team. He led the WCHA with a +29 plus/minus.
He will also be playing along side his brother Nick Shore for a second season.
Wrenn finding success in junior league
William Wrenn started the season with the men’s ice hockey team, but at the end of it he found himself playing elsewhere.
Wrenn, who plays defense and was upset about his playing time, decided to leave DU after 18 games this season to play for the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League.
For the Winterhawks, Wrenn, and his linemate Taylor Aronson, has been going against the other teams’ top lines.
Wrenn’s Winterhawks made the playoffs and are currently in a first-round series against Kelowna Rockets.
Colbourne makes NHL debut
Joe Colbourne, who left DU as a sophomore last year to pursue an NHL career, made his debut for the Toronto Maple Leafs last Saturday.
Colbourne played center on Toronto’s topline with Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul.
Colbourne was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 2008 NHL entry draft with the No. 18 pick, but was traded by the Bruins to the Maple Leafs on Feb. 18.
He assisted on the only goal for the Maple Leafs as they lost to the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 in the final regular season game.
