Skintight Outrage, an improv group formed by DU in February 2011, returned to the comedy scene this fall with a riotous performance last Wednesday.

The troupe was formed by Rollie Williams, a graduate of Puget Sound in 2010, and Jesse Greaves-Smith, a DU graduate student studying education.

Performing in a style similar to the ABC television series “Whose Line Is It Anyway?,” Skintight Outrage performed multiple skits during their hour-long show, all the while playing along to audience suggestions.

“You’re guaranteed to laugh, and maybe cry in a good way,” said Greaves-Smith of the performances.

Last week, the audience seemed to agree. One of the standout skits was Party Quirks, a game in which three cast members impersonate celebrities.

The celebrities included Mean Girls-diva Regina George, an undead Billy Mays and a bald Snooki. The Mean Girls references were completely lost on the party host, much to the amusement of the female audience members.

“How could you not know about a very obscure character from a movie that came out eight years ago?” quipped Williams, who co-hosted the show with grad student James Bautgartner.

Another fun skit performed was Text Talk, where a cast member uses an audience member’s text messages for all of their responses. One student jumped out of a chair to volunteer his phone, and due to the crass nature of the comments, it wasn’t hard to see why. The performers weren’t fazed at all, playing well off of each other and managing to keep straight faces. They were clearly having as much fun as the audience.

“People like to do improv because it’s very freeing,” said Williams, the group’s coach.

Sophomore Spencer McIntire hinted at one other reason.

“We want to share the art of improv and one day compete against all teams and crush them,” he said.

“We want to get everyone to a level where [improv] is second nature,” Williams said.

According to sophomore member Camille Jasensky, about half of the members of Skintight Outrage are new to improv.

The group will be hosting auditions after winter break. Anyone interested in honing their improv skills is welcome to audition.
