The Career Center hosted their quarterly Career and Internship Fair last Wednesday at the Gates Field House, with tables representing 50 government and non-profit employers.

According to Pat O’Keefe, assistant director of the Career Center, about 350 students and alumni attended the spring fair, while 500 usually attend each of the fall and winter fairs. The employers who register are always different, she said, but there are some regulars.

Employers included organizations like the Colorado Department of Revenue, the Salvation Army, the Peace Corps and Teach for America.

“The spring fair is unusual because of this government and non-profit focus,” said O’Keefe. “The fall and winter fairs are more business oriented.”

“We do an evaluation at the end of every fair, and we get almost all positive feedback,” said O’Keefe. “A lot of it has to do with the quality of the students.”

According to O’Keefe, there were 13 more employers at this year’s fair than last year.

She said the increase in employers from previous years could be a sign of the beginning of U.S. economic recovery.

Senior Alexander Barnes attended the fair to seek a summer internship.

“The fair was good, but it was geared more towards job-seekers than those looking for internships,” said Barnes.
