DU men’s basketball played their final home game of the 2023-24 season last Thursday, losing a competitive match-up against the Kansas City Roos. Four Denver seniors were recognized in the Senior Night award ceremony afterward, including senior guard Tommy Bruner, who suited up for his final home game with the Crimson and Gold.

Denver came out of the gate strong, particularly Bruner, attacking the paint with fervor to jump ahead 7-2 in the first five minutes. The score remained tight over the next ten, Denver holding a slight lead, until the 7:20 second mark of the half when KC went up 22-21. KC went into halftime with a one-point lead, 38-37.

Out of the half, KC began to pull away, eventually growing the lead too far out of Denver’s reach, at one point leading by 19 points. KC ended up winning the game, 84-69.

Bruner led the team with 31 points, with junior forward Pedro Lopez-Sanvicente adding 15 points and 5 rebounds.

Four graduating seniors were honored in the senior day ceremony after the game. Bruner, redshirt guard Drake Muller, graduate guard Jaxon Brenchley and guard Carlos Fuentes were given framed jerseys with their names and numbers on the back.

Bruner spoke on leaving his mark on DU sports history. “I’ve made my mark. I got the points record. Now, hopefully, we can have success in the tournament so I can leave an even bigger mark,” he said.

Denver traveled to St. Thomas on Saturday to play their last regular season game, falling to the Tommies, 58-83.

DU will start their Summit League Championship run on March 9 in a play-in game in Sioux Falls, S.D. against the Kansas City Roos. The game can be streamed live on the Summit League Network.
