Have you ever wondered what restaurants lie beyond campus? Aside from Jerusalem, Snarf’s and Spanky’s, we don’t hear too much about the restaurants surrounding us. As someone who loves food, I have made it my mission to find some hidden delicacies that are nearby. If you want a change in cuisine or find yourself bored, check out some of these high-quality restaurants below.

Sukiya Ramen

What better dish to warm yourself up than ramen? As the air becomes cooler and stings our cheeks, Sukiya Ramen on Pearl Street is a place you’re not going to want to miss. With a 4.9 rating, it even has reviews comparing it to Japanese ramen. One person stated, “The food was as amazing as when we were in Japan,” while another explained a little of the atmospheric appeal: “Best ramen I’ve had outside of Japan, and has the atmosphere of a good ramen spot down a Tokyo alley.”

A large bowl of ramen costs around $15, and there is usually plenty left over; plus, their slight twist to edamame leaves you craving more.

Corvus Coffee Roasters

This Platt Park coffee shop has a dark cozy ambiance that’s perfect for doing homework. It offers everything from lattes, mochas and chai to their classic drip coffee. Whether you like it dark or sweet, you’re sure to find something you enjoy. Pastries are also available, including blueberry croissants, raspberry danishes and pumpkin bread. If you need a little pick-me-up or find yourself in the neighborhood, Corvus is the place to be.

Kaos Pizzeria

This Pearl Street hidden gem is one you’re not going to want to miss. Kaos Pizzeria first caught my attention because of its warm vibe and atmosphere. What looks like a little red house is actually home to a large variety of pies. From margherita (my personal favorite) to a classic pepperoni, Kaos has everything you’re looking for. Not in the mood for pizza? Don’t sweat it; they have a wide range of appetizers, pastas and salads. This restaurant may be a little pricier than what you’re used to, but I assure you the quality of the food and the inviting atmosphere makes it all worth it. If you’re in need of good food, have family coming into town, or are craving a pie, Kaos Pizzeria won’t disappoint.

Pete’s University Park Cafe

Located right across from campus, Pete’s University Park Cafe has some of the best breakfast around. The hash browns are cooked golden, the pancakes are fluffy and they even have numerous options for vegetarians/vegans. Just take a short walk through campus and meet some friends for a nice morning out. Food and convenience aren’t the only reasons you should visit Pete’s. To make the deal even sweeter, everything in Pete’s is reasonably priced.

Bonnie Brae Ice Cream

It can never be too cold for ice cream. Ever wondered why Bonnie Brae Ice Cream always has such a long line outside? Well, the answer is simple: it’s delicious! With an updated menu of flavors, some seasonal, there will always be something new when you go back to visit. All of the ice cream is made in-house, setting Bonnie Brae apart from other ice cream parlors. As someone who has never cared too much for ice cream, I have officially been hooked on this cold dessert. Bonnie Brae is creamy, not too sweet and the cones are to die for.
