A weird mix of sad and excited; the best way to describe finishing up news section edits for the last time.
I started my freshman year at DU as a chemistry major, committed to writing as few papers as humanly possible throughout college. But by the end of my second quarter on campus, it became abundantly clear that a career in natural sciences was not for me. First I switched to communication studies, and then later, journalism.
My first Clarion meeting was an awkward Zoom call. I didn’t know the editors or any of the writers. Clarion alumnus Jake Gloth convinced me to write for the news section, and after a few weeks, I started covering Graduate Student Government meetings and from there, I was hooked.
To past staff and writers: The amount that I have learned from all of you is immense, and for that I thank you.
To the current Clarion editors: Thank you for making this past year enjoyable, and making writing for the Clarion fun, exciting and worthwhile.
To contributing writers: Thank you for continually submitting high-quality, well researched articles.
In my departure, I wish the Clarion luck and am excited to see how the paper continues to evolve and make the voices of the DU community heard. I am certain that my replacement, the incredibly talented Matthew Logan, will ensure that the news section provides accurate and fair reporting on stories from on-campus to world-wide issues.
