Are your skis or snowboard due for a wax and tune? You can cross this off your to-do list while supporting a new DU start-up company called Skeezy Wax and Tune. This service provides waxing and tuning for both skis and snowboards. They can be picked up from your house and delivered directly to your door, or students can schedule a time that is convenient to have their items picked up or dropped off.

“We offer two services: a full wax and tune and a wax-only service. Services for college students are priced at a $10 discount and can be scheduled through our Calendly,” said Shawn Lach, a founder of Skeezy Wax and Tune.

The company was founded by three outdoorsy DU Daniels College of Business studentsShawn Lach, Noah McLaughlin and Ryan Kennedy. Shawn is a junior business information and analytics student at Daniels College Business. Noah is a senior student studying finance, and Ryan is a sophomore studying real estate.

Starting a business is not an easy job. The process consists of conducting in-depth research on demographics, competing companies, potential clientele and the current marketplace. Once this research is done, you begin building your brand, gaining a following and establishing a platform to sell the products or service. Skeezy spread the word by developing and consistently posting on their Instagram, @skeezywaxandtune.

“Since October, we have serviced over 75 skis and have generated a revenue of over $1500,” Lach said.

This success is a result of Lach, McLaughhlin and Kennedy’s motivation and determination. The team attributes this achievement to their professors at Daniels who were supportive and helpful through this complex journey.

“We owe much of our company success to Professor Joshua Ross in the entrepreneur department for his assistance in outreach,” Lach said.

Their studies played a major role in the creation of Skeezy Wax and Tune, as the idea was formed in the students’ entrepreneurship class. The class is called “From Idea to First Dollar Sale” with Professor Joshua Ross. This course focuses on the fundamentals of starting a companysuch as launching a product, creating a market and handling the challenges presented by the world of entrepreneurship. Skeezy Wax and Tune can be a great inspiration for any DU student trying to start-up their own business.

“The idea was inspired by our love for skiing and snowboarding. We wanted to create a business that was COVID-friendly and effective, which is why we implemented the delivery aspect of our business. The goal is to reduce the need for people to leave their homes and wait days or weeks to get their gear serviced at a traditional ski shop,” Lach said.

So far, Skeezy Wax and Tune has been extremely successful for Shawn, Noah and Ryan. Students have been satisfied with the services Skeezy offers and are excited for the future of the student-driven company.

“Skeezy made it easy for me with their free ski pickup and delivery. They completed the job within 24 hours, so I could hit the mountains in time,” said Cameron Rizai, a junior at DU and satisfied customer.
