Just one RTD stop away from campus, on the corner of East Louisiana Street and South Washington Street, is “Denver’s first açaí superfruit cafe,” Berriegood Co. The cafe is not too hard to spot, decorated with an abundance of lively plants and bright colors, complementing the fresh and earthy vibe of the store.

The cafe prides itself on providing “healthy eats that taste like treats,” which is completely true. There are many different options for all different tastes, and the employees are also very helpful in making suggestions. Going to Berriegood was my first time ever trying an açaí bowl, and I felt slightly overwhelmed after seeing the many different options. However, the employees were very helpful and gave me suggestions on what to order.

I ended up going with the “Original Bowl,” complete with açaí, banana, strawberries, soy milk and topped with banana, granola and honey. I also added mango to the blend to make it sweeter, along with strawberries on top. The finished product was absolutely amazing. It was easy to tell how fresh and flavorful all of the ingredients were, and the consistency was perfect.

The only factor to be aware of when going to Berriegood would be how hungry you are feeling. I would suggest going as a light meal, as Berriegood is not very filling. However, it did fill me up a lot more than I expected it to, and I felt satisfied after it. There are also a few options to make it more filling, such as adding peanut butter or Nutella on top. I also enjoyed that it was a perfect spring snack and was a healthier option than what I am usually used to eating at the dining halls on campus.

The location of the café is also extremely convenient, as it is only one stop away from campus. It also wasn’t too busy in the cafe, so the bowls came out quickly and we weren’t gone for too long. Berriegood is perfect for a day off-campus, and there is a lot to do around the restaurant on Pearl Street. There are other cafés with delicious pastries, and there are many unique coffee shops. Even just walking around can be a fun activity, as there are many murals along the walls and intricately decorated shops. Next time you’re looking for something to do on the weekend, give Berriegood a try and I am sure you will not be disappointed.
