The Denver volleyball team swept Oral Roberts on Sunday afternoon at Hamilton Gymnasium, winning three consecutive sets. They improved to 16-6 on the season and 8-2 in the Summit League.

In the first set, the Pioneers came out strong, capturing a 12-6 lead early on. A pair of kills from senior outside hitter Amanda Green (Skokie, Ill.) set up Denver for an 8-0 run to walk away from the set with a 25-12 win. Junior outside hitter Lydia Bartalo (Colorado Springs, Colo.) contributed seven out of the final nine points of the set for Denver.

In the second set, Oral Roberts was able to find ways to target Denver’s defense. The Pioneers held on to the lead the entire set, with the exception of a 12-12 tie halfway through, but the Golden Eagles were able to get between one to three points from the lead virtually the entire set. Green led the Pioneers for points in the set, scoring five out of the 25 points. Back to back scores from sophomore setter Ellie Anderson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) secured the victory for Denver.

The Pioneers did not waste anytime getting back on track after nearly slipping behind in the second set, starting the third set on a 10-0 run, with nine coming from Bartalo. Oral Roberts was never able to pick up much momentum the rest of the set, and the Pioneers propelled to a 25-13 win, securing a victory of the match.

As a team, Denver outhit the Golden Eagles, who are in eighth place out of nine in the Summit League, .348-.035. Bartalo led the Pioneers in kills with 14 and had an attack percentage of .571. Anderson managed a team high 14 assists. Denver now finds themselves sitting in second place in the Summit League behind a South Dakota team who is undefeated in conference play.

Denver will hit the road to face South Dakota State, who is in last place in the Summit League, on Friday, Nov. 1.
