This June, the university will welcome Imran Khan and Freeman A. Hrabowski III to make addresses at the graduate and undergraduate Commencement ceremonies, respectively.
Khan is an entrepreneur, technology executive and investor who graduated from DU in 2000. He studied economics and finance, and he has since been recognized as a distinguished alumnus for leadership and impact. He has worked at JPMorgan, Credit Suisse and most recently at Snap, Inc., where he was chief strategy officer. Khan worked for Snapchat in the business of building operations, partnerships, ad sales and more. He is best known for being named a “Most Indispensable Executive in Marketing, Media and Tech” by Adweek in 2016, as well as for his role in the $25 billion share sale of Alibaba IPO.
Hrabowski is the current president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). His work emphasizes minority inclusion in math and science education. He studied mathematics at the wampton Institute and earned his PhD in higher education administration and statistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Hrabowski is known for being named one of “100 Most Influential People in the World,” “America’s Best Leaders” and “America’s 10 Best College Presidents” by various sources. He also has a background in activism, serving as a civil rights leader growing up, appearing in Spike Lee’s 1997 documentary “Four Little Girls” and being appointed chair of the President’s Advisory Commission on Education Excellence for African Americans by the former President Barack Obama.
Graduate Commencement will take place on June 14 at Magness Arena, and undergraduate Commencement will occur the following day at the same location.
