The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) meeting on Apr. 9 passed two bills and tabled one bill. The first bill passed was the Amendment Amendment, which was previously tabled at the meeting held last week. This bill proposed to change the process in which amendments are made on bills.

The second bill passed was the Resolution in Favor of Data Synchronization and Other Issues Resolution in which USG resolved to formally support the Queer Students Alliance (QSA) in their calls to both merge the three roster generation systems as well as add a pronoun selector in the application to DU. It also resolved to advocate for the creation of a gender neutral or “Queer” residence floor, Living and Learning Community or Center in the new Dimond Family Residential Village.

USG tabled an Executive Secretary Additions Amendment which would create positions for an Executive Treasurer, Press Secretary and Executive Secretary of USG Marketing. The Executive Treasurer would manage and oversee the funds of the Executive Branch of USG, create a funding manual yearly that outlines the ways in which Executive funds may be accessed and requested by various parties, manage Executive Fund requests and ensure that these funds are used in a way that meets the goals of the various Executive Funds and manage the Executive Budget and work with the comptroller to meet requests for funding. The role and reach of The Executive Treasurer is controversial in the USG chamber, and creation of this position is not guaranteed.

The Press Secretary would be responsible for outward facing communications of the USG. They work directly with the Clarion and other various news organizations to increase awareness of what is taking place within the USG and various USG projects They would recruit directors to work with them to further the outward communications of the USG. Furthermore, they would be in charge of community outreach, working closely with the Secretary of Marketing to ensure that the messaging of the USG is reaching the appropriate outside audiences.

Lastly, the Secretary of USG Marketing would be responsible for creating marketing materials for the USG, which would consist of creating graphic posts for online platforms, posters and other commonly used forms of marketing in order to promote the work of the USG. They would work closely with the Secretary of Communications and the Press Secretary in order to ensure the awareness of USG projects, events on DU’s campus and manage all social media outlets that USG operates.
