Along University Boulevard and Evans Avenue, one can find countless restaurants: Illegal Pete’s, Jerusalem’s, Ginza Sushi, The Ramen House and another gem: Pho Saigon Star.
Pho Saigon Star is set back from University Boulevard, but their sign sticks out to attract hungry college students and other customers alike. Pho Saigon Star has an outdoor patio area and a dining room that features giant, colorful fish that hang from the ceiling, adding a unique splash of color to the atmosphere of the tiny restaurant. If you’re looking for a tasty dinner near campus or for a great location to share a meal with visiting friends or family, this little pho restaurant is perfect.
There are many great things about Pho Saigon Star. It’s close to campus, has super speedy service and it’s absolutely delicious; however, perhaps the best aspect of Pho Saigon Star is that it is very affordable for a college student budget. Meals usually range in price from $9 to $15, which is extremely reasonable given the size of the dishes. You get a big, hearty meal to fill you up—and maybe even leftovers for later. Whether you get pho, Pad Thai or decide on something more simple like sesame chicken, you’re guaranteed a scrumptious meal.
Personally, I like the grilled chicken pho or the Pad Thai, both of which add some extra spice to kick up the flavor. Some other good choices include the sesame scallops or Vietnamese garlic butter shrimp if you like seafood, and the chicken coconut soup can warm you up on cold days.
I have gone to Pho Saigon Star many times since coming to DU, and I’ve always had great food and good times. I would definitely give this restaurant a rating of 4 out of 5 stars because of the affordable price, generous portions and speedy service. I highly recommend this campus staple to satisfy your Vietnamese cravings. Pho Saigon Star can be found at 2045 S. University Blvd.
