On Sept. 14, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Greg Kvistad released a press release via email announcing that DU’s alcohol policies had been reviewed by himself and Chancellor Chopp.
The policies highlight DU’s commitment to make sure students make safe and informed decisions, providing support to students, faculty and staff suffering from substance abuse and defining conduct expectations regarding alcohol.
Updated language was also laid out about the use of DU funds to buy alcohol, or for having alcohol at DU-sponsored events.
Under the policies, students are prohibited from engaging in the misuse of alcohol which is defined as, but not limited to, drinking to excess intoxication which is damaging to the person’s health, regardless of age; causing a person to drink without his or her consent; consuming, possessing or giving alcohol to anyone under the age of 21; consuming alcohol during class and possession of paraphernalia.
According to the policy document, “student conduct outcomes are intended to be educational rather than punitive whenever possible.”
The full policy can be read online on the DU policies webpage.
