Heading into a weekend match against the University of Nebraska on Feb. 7, DU men’s tennis was ranked no. 64 in the country. Unfortunately, the Pioneers lost the match 4-3 and will look to rebound when they travel to Utah to face the University of Utah and Brigham Young University (BYU) on Feb. 13 and 14.

The team is currently participating in the Florida State University Invitational, which features 13 games spanning from Jan. 10 to March 7. The schedule sees some travel weekends for the Pioneers, with some weekend matches scheduled to take place at home in Denver.

The men’s tennis team began the tournament on Jan. 10 and 11 by defeating Furman University and the University of North Florida in Tallahassee, Florida before losing to Florida State University.

In New Hampshire on Jan. 23 and 24, DU triumphed over Cornell University 5-1, but was dropped by Dartmouth University 2-5.

Back in Denver on Jan. 31, the Pioneers lost to Princeton University and on Feb. 7 they fell to Nebraska, bringing their record to 3-4.

The majority of the remaining schedule is played throughout the midwest, featuring BYU, Utah, Drake University, Wichita State University, Oral Roberts University and Marquette University as opponents.

In their most recent match against Nebraska, the team started strong. Denver won two of the three doubles matches, thanks to efforts by pairings of sophomore Yannik James (St. Georges, Grenada) and sophomore Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal), and junior Henry Craig (Murrieta, California) and freshman Jesse Ruder-Hook (Denver). Unfortunately, DU only registered two wins out of six singles matches. James and junior David Fox (Chipstead, UK) won their matches.
