The Student Organization Committee of the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) licensed six new student organizations this month. According to USG Student Organizations Chairperson Jeffrey Mariano, requirements to be licensed or re-licensed as a student organization include having a faculty advisor, at least 10 members, an updated OrgSync account, an updated constitution and a completed finance application to request the amount of money the group is seeking from USG. The following information is about each of the six new student organizations.

Esports Club

The ESports Club is dedicated to fostering the growth and interests of the new and pioneering industry of Electronic Sports. Their OrgSync page states, “We want to create a group of similar interests that want to compete competitively in the diverse games and create a place where everyone can come and have fun.” Contact President Scott Andre if interested. Meetings are Saturdays from 12-5 p.m. in Sturm, Room 411.

Vision Inspired by Empowerment

This is a group of students committed to promoting cultural awareness on the DU campus. According to their OrgSync page they plan to do this by hosting various events that emphasize the importance of diversity and inclusiveness. Contact duvibe2013@gmail.com if interested. Meetings are Wednesdays at 8 p.m. in Anderson Academic Commons (AAC).

Alpha and Omega Christian Student Association

Alpha and Omega, which is linked with the University of Colorado Denver’s Christian Student Association, is a student-run Christian group focused on community outreach at DU. Their OrgSync page states, “We seek to be an oasis to those in need of spiritual refreshment in a welcoming environment, focusing on personal relationships, and creating lasting memories during the most exciting time of our lives.” There are several weekly small group discussions held around the Denver metro area, including midweek devotionals, Sunday church services and fun events such as ultimate frisbee, football, game nights and much more. Alpha and Omega also participates in larger community and service projects, from feeding the homeless in Denver to aiding in international relief projects in Latin and South America, the Middle-East and Africa, as well as Asia. Engineers without borders

Engineers Without Borders supports community-driven development programs worldwide by collaborating with local partners to design and implement sustainable engineering projects while creating transformative experiences and responsible leaders. Their OrgSync page states that “the vision of EWB–DU is a world in which the communities we serve have the capacity to sustainably meet their basic human needs, and that our members have enriched global perspectives through the innovative professional educational opportunities that the EWB- USA program provides.” Contact EWB.UofDenver@gmail.com if interested. Meetings are the third Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in Clarence M. Knudson Hall.

CURE University

CURE University is a club where students with interests in medicine, public health and humanitarian efforts can unite and work to improve the lives of children from around the world. Sponsored by the Christian non-profit organization Cure International, the goal of CURE University is to raise awareness for children in developing countries to have medical treatment while simultaneously raising money so those same children can be provided with surgeries. According to their OrgSync page, the functions of CURE University will involve providing awareness events for the DU student community, fundraising and possibly volunteering abroad where students will work in Cure International hospitals and in the surrounding communities. DU Vegan and Vegetarian Society

DU Vegan and Vegetarian Society (DUVVS) is a student organization established to support those living or interested in vegan and vegetarian lifestyles. According to their OrgSync page, they also plan to be a launching pad for activism and to promote these lifestyles on campus. DUVVS meets Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in Penrose Library.
