Thunderous beats and hypnotic light shows characterized a great night at 1st Bank Center in Broomfield last Friday. There was a euphoric sensation enveloping the crowd and it created a magical, sensual environment that was felt by every person attending. Openers Branchez, DJ Green Lantern, Candyland, Seven Lions and Paper Diamond did a great job of getting the crowd ready with their trance beats.

Branchez is a fairly new trap artist, coming in to the spotlight in 2009, from New York City. He mainly played bangers from his new album “That Ish.” DJ Green Lantern is also a hip hop music producer from NYC. He mainly played songs from one of his more recent albums “Invade the Game.” Candyland is an electronic group from Santa Barbara that began producing original songs in 2011. Their stand-out moment was with their new song “Breathless.” Seven Lions is an EDM producer also from Santa Barbara that began producing in 2010. His performance was one of the best amongst the openers, featuring the most versatile and interesting music from his well-received album “Fevers.” Paper Diamond is an electronic music producer from right here in Denver. His performance was a great precursor to the main event: Krewella and Zed’s Dead.

When Krewella took the stage around 10:30 p.m., the crowd was well prepared for the show that was to come. Lead singers Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf paced the crowd with powerful vocals to enhance the fast-paced beats of DJ Rain Man. Their coordination of lights, videos and music kept the crowd in a trance for their entire set. The floor of the 1st Bank Center was packed with excited ravers decorated in flashing lights and metallic materials. The general bowl seats in the stands surrounding the floor were not nearly as packed and could not match the floor’s energy. However, the view of the stage was great no matter what section it was viewed from.
Zed’s Dead took the stage right around midnight and got the crowd moving. Beautiful videos graced the three screens behind the stage and colorful lights burst from the stage causing euphoria. They played through their massive catalog of party starters including hits such as “White Satin,” “Rude Boy,” “Eyes on Fire” and “Adrenaline.”

“Bassmentality” was the climax of the show, bringing the crowd to an almost breathless frenzy with its frantic beats and flickering lights. During it, they frequently told the crowd to jump up and down and to put their “Z’s” in the air.

They ended their set with a grimy encore around 1:30 a.m. that left the crowd satisfied and exhausted with a great and energetic night. This stellar lineup created an amazing atmosphere for the 3,000 people present. All six DJ’s had an unforgettable performance that hyped the crowd and built their excitement up until the very end of the show. Overall, the best performers were definitely the most anticipated, Krewella and Zed’s Dead, but the openers added their own unique vibe and were well-received by the crowd.
