A new school year is underway at DU and many students have already enjoyed the two new food locations on campus.

DU is furthering it’s attempts to go healthy with an all natural smoothie bar on the Driscoll Green while Nagel has expanded it’s options to include Asian food.

For students looking to replace the everlasting sugar high of a Jazzman’s smoothie, Chill on the Green offers a convenient alternative with their fresh and organic smoothies made with a yogurt or soy milk base.

Over the summer, the new smoothie bar Chill on the Greens replaced the old Grill on the Green where students could enjoy chicken sandwiches and burgers similar to the Sidelines Pub food.

These sweet and healthy smoothies are a mouth-watering summer getaway from the stress of college, while the temperatures are still hot. Customers have the option of creating their own personal smoothie with a variety of fresh fruits or they can choose one of the bar’s classic smoothies.

These include the popular Snowmass smoothie that is the perfect combination of mangos, strawberries and peaches. This thick, flavorful and delicious smoothie is blended to perfection and is a refreshing delicacy on the few hot days left of the fall.

The walk up and order beach bar style, friendly staff and quick smoothie turn around have made quite the buzz around DU. Chill on the Green has been open for only two weeks but already lines can be seen accumulating in the few spare minutes between classes.

Each smoothie costs $4.99; the bar accepts cash as well as the meal and flex pay plan, but they do not accept credit cards. Hours of operation are 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Chill on the Green is seasonal and will close when the temperatures drop and open again with the sunshine in the spring.

Another new and healthy food option on campus is Ibis Pacific Rim Cuisine, an Asian restaurant located in Nagel that offers an affordable option for students looking for a healthy option, dinner with friends or a meal break between studying.

The fresh tasting and flavorful food is cooked to perfection, particularly the spicy orange chicken. Cooked with just the right amount of sauce, this chicken adds some bite to your pallette without leaving the meat greasy or soggy.

Other popular options include the udon noodles and the egg roll as perfect additions to a combination meal, or as an appetizer.

Ibis Pacific Rim Cuisine is the perfect go to restaurant for students looking for a unique experience with tasty vegetables and tofu options sure to please the vegetarians on campus.

Prices range from $1.49 to $6.99 for a combination meal that includes noodles or rice, vegetables, meat and a fountain drink.

Customers have the option to pay with cash, credit card, or the meal and flex pay plan.

Hours for Ibis Pacific Rim are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the weekends, this flavorful food and convenient location has resulted in a popular new restaurant on campus.

DU is always looking for ways to offer alternative and healthy food options for it’s students, and between fresh fruit smoothies and tasty noodle dishes, they may just have nailed it.
