Last week’s episode of “The Office” showed Jim returning from a week of jury duty, provoking intrigue in the group and suspicion in Dwight. As Dwight names himself private investigator in the matter and Jim reluctantly retells his experience to the rest of the office, Angela has her baby, prematurely.

Oscar, ever doubtful that the Senator is straight, leaks his doubts to Dwight, who finds himself at the helm of two mysteries: Is he the baby daddy of Angela’s newborn, and can he crack Jim’s supposedly concocted story?

After the disappointing exit of Steve Carrell last season, the show has tried to compensate with guest appearances of the likes of Jim Carrey and Will Ferrell, finally settling on James Spader as the new head honcho Robert California while appointing Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) boss of the Scranton branch.

The show has not been the same since. Struggling to recover from the loss of their main player, the episodes have fluctuated in consistency, not really up to par with the same laughs the older seasons provided. The new characters attempt to fill the hole left by Carrell, but are generally unsuccessful.

With this episode, the show takes off in the direction everyone assumed it would: hinting at a spin-off revolving around Rainn Wilson’s Dwight Schrute. So enjoy this Dwight-centered episode and its cliffhanger ending, and look to the future of a show possibly heading in a bright new direction.
