Sidelines Pub in Driscoll North is now open later at night and offering a meal-swipe buffet option.
The pub now closes at 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with an all-you-can-eat buffet from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. using a meal swipe rather than meal plan cash or flex dollars.
The pub’s regular menu is not available at this time. It is a combination of burgers, omelets, sushi, deli and more. They also provide daily specials which vary depending on the day of the week, including nacho, Asian, potato and pasta bars.
The food at the buffet is slightly lower in quality than the pub’s usual menu, but it is still better than dining hall food and is comparable to Nagel’s meal swipe plan.
The real reason to go to the pub, however, is because of the schedule. It is the only place on campus where you can get food this late at night, which is a new positive feature. Unfortunately, it is still not open on the weekends.
These hours are convenient for students who have classes or work ending after the dining halls close, or just need food while studying. Those who like an all-you-can-eat style buffet at odd hours of the clock will also appreciate it.
The new hours and all-you-can-eat buffet are not the only changes to the pub. The atmosphere has changed drastically since last school year.
The booths have been removed, along with the majority of the televisions, pool tables and the foosball table. The addition of a meal cart similar to that in Olin Hall, the Newman Center and Daniels College of Business contribute to Sidelines feeling more like a university hangout than a pub.
However, beware if you are planning to hang out with a group of friends who have already dined. The pub, which used to be an open area for students, is swipe-only admittance during these hours. So if you aren’t eating or willing to sacrifice a swipe, pass on the pub for late-night socializing.
Sidelines Pub has gone through changes during the past year. The addition of a late-night meal option on campus was definitely a positive move for the pub, and a great way for students to save some money.
