Recently, I have been involved in an incident on campus where I was found guilty of possessing a fake I.D., marijuana, a pipe and alcohol in my dorm room.
I thought it would be okay to have these items tucked away in my dorm, but my arrogance has brought me much hardship and turmoil.
This disgracing act is something I know the DU community as a whole finds atrocious and unbecoming of such a prestigious university; and for that, I apologize to all my fellow peers. By having alcohol and marijuana in my life, I have greatly scorned my reputation here at the University of Denver as a delinquent.
In addition, I have caused my body much harm through my substance abuse. I ask not for your pity, DU community, for this incident on campus has helped me see that my behavior is detrimental to my goals academically, as well as career-wise.
My choice to change to a substance-free life is not only motivated by the Citizenship & Community Standards staff, but also my own personal motivation to stay sober and drug-free.
I hope readers can learn from this article that by choosing to be substance-free, you can avoid the guilt and embarrassment that comes with using these illegal substances, as well as living a more fulfilling life in a sober state of mind.
