“The Mechanic” stars Jason Statham (“Transporter,” “The Expendables”) as Arthur Bishop, who seeks revenge.
Bishop works for a very special company that trains elite killers, known as “mechanics,” who use their mastery in order to create scenarios that make the murders look like accidental deaths, such as drowning or drug overdoses.
Bishop is the best of the best in this elite group and is given a mission to kill a friend of his, Harry McKenna (Donald Sutherland).
Bishop realizes something just isn’t right, but completes his assignment anyway, making it look like a carjacking murder. He then befriends Harry’s son Steve McKenna played by Ben Foster (“The Messenger”), who becomes Bishop’s protégé in learning the art of the “mechanic.”
The film offers a lot of scenes of bad guys dying in brutal ways. The point of the movie is to see Jason Statham kill some bad guys in very brutal ways. The plot fails to differentiate itself from previous Statham films or any other films in its genre.
The acting by Statham and Foster is actually decent and does not contribute to the film’s loss of originality.
The film has everything that a Jason Statham movie ever has; bloody action, pretty girls and a bald bad guy. It’s pointless action entertainment at its best and nothing else.
