Freshman Adrienne Creager is preparing for her first college finals. She expects to eat more, drink more coffee and sleep much less.

“Studying for finals will turn into an all day event at the library for me,” said Creager.

For freshmen like Creager, as well as upperclassmen, many DU organizations are doing their part to make the stress associated with finals time minimal.

DU Peer Educators (DUPE’d), the Health and Counseling Center (HCC), DU Programming Board (DUPB) and DU Late Night are hosting events in the weeks leading up to finals, which begin November 19.

“We want students who are looking for information, yet are afraid to seek therapy services to have the information,” said Counseling Director Scott Cypers.

DUPE’d is hosting Sweat Out Stress, a free yoga class in Nagel’s overflow dining area from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for the next two Wednesdays, according to DUPE’d coordinator Sara Snyder.

“This class is taught by DU fitness instructors and if students have them, we would like them to bring yoga mats,” said Snyder.

Another finals week event is The Late Night Breakfast hosted by DU Late Night and DUPB this Thursday, Nov. 11. The breakfast will be immediately following the last DUPB movie for the quarter in Sturm. It will be set up outside of Sturm beginning at 10 p.m. where Illegal Pete’s breakfast burritos as well as well as goody bags filled with tips and tools to help students de-stress before finals week will be provided.

“We are hosting this event as a way to help students manage their stress levels as well as show them there are late night alternatives to alcohol related activities on campus,” said Mariah Shell, Late Night Signature Events coordinator.

The HCC, which hosts “Wellness Wednesdays,” has a special topic for the workshop on Nov. 17. The topic of discussion will be “Procrastination Busting/Beating Finals Stress.”The workshop will be located in the Johnson-MacFarlane classroom from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
