Men’s basketball:DU defeated Adams State 73-66 in exhibition play Thursday night at Magness Arena. This was the first game of the season for the Pioneers and it showed as there were numerous mistakes as expected in a pre-season game.”During exhibition games we want to play a lot of different people, different combinations. We want to put people in situations that when it comes time in the real games they have been through it before,” said coach Terry Carroll.Leading the way for Denver was senior Yemi Nicholson who finished with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Also senior Adrew Carpenter had 11 points and junior Antonio Porch had 8 points, 4 assists and 7 rebounds.”We just got to play with much more physicalness and toughness and really get out on the defensive end, we just let them do whatever they wanted to do, that’s not the way we play,” said Carroll.DU will play its final pre-season game this Saturday at 3 p.m. against UC- Colorado Springs at Hamiliton Gymnasium. Women’s basketball:Pioneers won 88-82 over Metro State Saturday in overtime in an exhibition contest. Junior Tyesha Lowery had 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and fellow junior Lauren Reini finished with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Sophomore Jenna Cole had 17 points and 4 assists and sophomore Sara Benham scored 11 points.DU will host Adams State in their final exhibition game this Saturday at 1 p.m.Women’s soccer:The Pioneers ended their season with a 1-0 loss to Western Kentucky in the Sun Belt Conference tournament last Wednesday. DU finished the season with a 9-8-2 record and without a fourth SBC title. The team leaders were junior Lleane Grimditch who had 6 goals, sophomore Taryn Hammings finished with 3 goals and 7 assists and sophomore Jenna Billingsley had 2 goals and 2 assists.Men’s tennis:Denver sophomore Adam Holmstrom defeated Mathieu Dehaine of UCLA to claim the singles title of the Southern California Intercollegiate. The title was his second singles title of the fall season. Holmstrom and fellow sophomore Niklas Persson teamed up to win the doubles title, which is also their second title of the season. DU showed their strength this season as they once again claimed both titles.
